The Heavenly Kid is an American comedy film from the year 1985 .
action
In the early 1960s, Joe Barnes and Bobby Fantana drive a race for the love of Emily, in which both drive a car into a ravine and whoever brakes first loses. Joe grabs fear relatively quickly, so that he gets out early and loses the race. But Bobby cannot enjoy his victory because he gets tangled in the steering wheel and races into the ravine with the car and dies. He then wakes up in the middle town and is refused a trip to the upper town because Raffael tells him that he has to do a job as a guardian angel on earth beforehand. He is sent back to Earth, where, after falling hopelessly in love with Sharon and losing his job, he saves Lenny by catching him when Lenny falls off a cliff by carelessness. That doesn't stop the job as he continues to be forced to stay on Earth with Lenny and help him get on with Sharon.
So he dresses him up, does sports with him and shows him how a confident appearance works. Lenny is clumsy every time, which is why Bobby reaches into the bag of tricks and gets him a new car. But it takes another turn before Lenny does a good job with the ladies. He gains so much self-confidence that he speaks to Sharon, ignores his secret admirer Melissa and provokes Fred, who doesn't like it at all, that he messes with Sharon. So he challenges him to a duel after school. Lenny then beats him up thanks to Bobby's help. Sharon likes this so much that she goes on a date with Lenny and sleeps with him. This changes Lenny's character and behavior, which not only leads to him ignoring his parents and Bobby, but also becoming more and more like Bobby himself.
Meanwhile, Bobby had to learn that his childhood sweetheart Emily married Joe Barnes and is the mother of Lenny. Bobby shows himself to Emily and learns that she once married Joe because he comforted her over his death and stood by her as a loving and caring husband. Especially when it came to Lenny, Bobby's son. He also has to save him, because after he learned from Raffael that Lenny will also die in the same test of courage in which Bobby once died, Bobby offers his soul to return to earth, where he wants to save him. He succeeds and thereby gains access to the upper town .
criticism
"Films about guardian angels almost always have charm, but Back from the Past has none."
"A comedy that is based on great cinematic models, has hardly achieved any independence and offers only non-binding, sometimes clumsy entertainment."
