action
Building contractor Frank, married with two children, meets Molly Gilmore, who is married to a doctor, on a pre-Christmas shopping trip. They accidentally swap their bags and so there are big surprises in both families when they unpack the presents on Christmas Eve.
After the holidays, Molly and Frank meet again by chance as they use the same train connection to work. They get along so well straight away that from now on they set up their daily routine so that they meet more often. They may be very attracted to each other, but their moral character prohibits them from entering into a relationship. Molly is torn and seeks advice from her boss and best friend at the same time. However, she herself constantly has problems with men and cannot help Molly any further.
Since nobody dares to break out of their partnership, they finally lose sight of each other again when Frank accepts the offer to go to Houston on business for six months. In the meantime, their feelings for one another have meant that their partnerships are on the brink of collapse.
Frank will be back at Christmas next year to sell his house. On a whim he goes back to the bookstore where he met Molly a year ago and they see each other again. They fail to talk about their breakups and it almost makes them miss each other again.
