Frances Conroy (born November 13, 1953 in Monroe , Georgia ) is an American actress . She is known for her role as Ruth Fisher in the television series Six Feet Under - Always Deaths (2001-2005) and for her various roles in American Horror Story (since 2011).

Life

In addition to some appearances in films such as The Scent of Women and Sleepless in Seattle , Frances Conroy is best known for her award-winning portrayal of Ruth Fisher in the television series Six Feet Under . She then took on roles in Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers and in Aviator by Martin Scorsese .

In addition to her film work, Conroy is primarily active on Broadway . In 2000 she was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in The Ride Down Mount Morgan .
