Monroe is a city and also the county seat of Walton County in the US state of Georgia with 13,234 inhabitants (as of 2010).

history
The Walton County was founded in 1818, Monroe was 1821 Town appointed and 1896 for the City .
In the 20th century, Monroe was a center of cotton production.
On a bridge on the road to Watkinsville in 1946 there was a four-fold lynching by whites of two African American couples. A pregnant woman was also killed in this murder, the fetus of which the murderers cut from her stomach after she died. Every year a spectacle takes place near the bridge in which the murders are re-enacted.
Monroe was a location for the movie Buddy Hits Luke .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 13,234 inhabitants were distributed among 4,886 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.61 people per household. There are a total of 5,742 households.
65.7% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring) with an average size of 3.20 people. There were children under the age of 18 in 38.0% of all households and persons aged 65 and over in 26.8% of all households.
30.6% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 28.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 17.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 33 years. 46.4% of the population were male and 53.6% were female.
53.3% of the population identified themselves as whites , 42.4% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 0.8% as Asian Americans . 1.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.8% to several ethnic groups. 3.4% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 32,510 USD , while 28.7% of the population lived below the poverty line.

The crime rate in 2010 was 353 points (US average: 266 points) in the average range. There were two murders, two rapes, eight robberies, 25 assaults, 200 break-ins, 430 thefts, 35 car thefts and one arson.
