Peter Suschitzky , ASC (born July 25, 1941 in London ) is a British cameraman who is best known for his collaboration with the Canadian director David Cronenberg .

Life

The son of Wolfgang Suschitzky , an Austrian photographer and cameraman, grew up in London . Peter Suschitzky began his career in 1960 with German television. Back in England, he soon found work in documentary and industrial films. He made his debut as a cameraman for a feature film in 1962 on It Happened Here .

In addition to working for high-profile directors such as Peter Watkins , John Boorman and Ken Russell , Suschitzky also photographed large-scale productions such as The Empire Strikes Back . The regular collaboration with David Cronenberg began with Die Unzertrennlichen (1988).

Suschitzky received the Canadian Genie Award in 1989, 1992 and 1996 for his work on The Lovebirds, Naked Lunch and Crash . In 1991 he won the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Camera for The Time of the Colorful Birds .
