The film describes both the preparations and the implementation of the Apollo 11 mission in the late 1960s. The private aspects of the three astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Mike Collins and Neil Armstrong are also highlighted.

A key question is who should be the first of the two astronauts in the command module to step onto the moon . Ultimately, the choice falls on Neil Armstrong as he is the commandant of the mission.
