James Saito (born March 6, 1955 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actor .

Life

James Saito was a member of the Asian American theater group East West Players in Los Angeles in the 1970s . He has appeared in the Broadway production of The King and I and in David Henry Hwang's Golden Child . He received the 2007 Obie Award for his performance in Julia Chos Durango at The Public Theater in New York City .

Saito made his first television appearance in 1976 in the two Emmys nominated drama Farewell to Manzanar , which featured the internment of Japanese Americans at the Manzanar War Relocation Center during World War II. He made his debut in a Hollywood production in 1980 with a small supporting role in Taylor Hackford's The Idolmaker . So far, James Saito has appeared in over 70 mainly supporting roles , with his appearances in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as Shredder (1990), in Die Hard: Now All the More (1995), On behalf of the devil and home alone again (both 1997) and Pearl Harbor (2001) are among the better known.

Saito played recurring guest roles in television series such as Pazifikgeschwader 214 , M * A * S * H , Law & Order , New York Undercover and a few more. In 2008 he starred in the BBC history documentary Heroes and Villains and was part of the regular cast of the series Eli Stone , in which he was Dr. Frank Chen , embodies the mental advisor of the title hero. In 2013 he had a guest role in an episode of the US action series Hawaii Five-0
