action

Four spies, led by Peter Beaupre, acquire possession of an integrated circuit built by a Silicon Valley company to control a novel missile invisible to radar. To trick the security checkpoints at the airport, they hide the circuit in a toy car.

Due to a mix-up at the hand luggage control at the airport, the single, somewhat quirky Mrs. Hess unwittingly comes into possession of the bag with the toy car in which the chip is hidden. The crook quartet follows her on the flight to Chicago. Since Mrs. Hess can't do anything with the toy, she gives it to the boy next door Alex as a reward for clearing the snow in front of her house.

Sick of chickenpox, Alex has to stay alone at the family home in a Chicago suburb while his older siblings go to school and their parents go to work.

The spies try to get the circuit back and, after unsuccessfully searching some of the neighboring houses, break into the house of the Pruitt family. With the help of countless tricks, Alex manages to defend the house against the crooks until the police, FBI and his parents arrive. In the end, the criminals are arrested by the police, and Alex hands the circuit over to an FBI agent.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that talking about "1997's second worst sequel" was like hitting a dead horse. The film contains "extremely" a lot of violence. The "exercise in boredom" is not only superfluous, but also repulsive.

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on December 12, 1997 that he liked the film more than either of its predecessors. Although he follows the formula of the previous films, he is funnier, more sensitive and has a charming main character. The direction of Raja Gosnell evades embarrassment.

The lexicon of international films wrote: “The third of the“ Alone at Home ”films is less violent than its predecessor, but also far more unimaginative. The slapstick entertainment, which is not very enjoyable, offers at best food for childish glee. "

Awards

Alex D. Linz was nominated for the Young Artist Award and the YoungStar Award in 1998 . The film was nominated for the 1998 Worst Remake or Sequel for the Golden Raspberry .

In 1994, however, Culkin retired from acting. As a result, the idea of a completely new film with a new cast was revised. In the fourth part of the series, the main character Kevin McCallister was used and a new actor ( Mike Weinberg ) was cast.

The film was in Chicago and Evanston ( Illinois rotated), the scenes were filmed in two different terminals at O'Hare International Airport early in the film. It grossed approximately $ 79.1 million worldwide , including approximately $ 30.7 million in US cinemas.
