action

Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Shaggy, Velma Dinkley and Scooby-Doo, the master detectives of Mystery AG , are among the celebrities of the hometown of Coolsville. You will be invited as guests of honor to a gala at the Coolsonian Criminology Museum. The exhibition shows numerous costumes of the monsters that Mystery AG successfully hunted down. Curator Patrick, with whom Velma falls in love at first sight, also appears at the reception. Suddenly one of the monsters on display comes to life, although everything should actually only be costumes and devastates the whole exhibition. Without further ado, the real attacker appears: Dr. Jonathan Jacobo, he is also disguised, but Mystery AG can quickly expose him. In the past, Jacobo had gone on a raid in a flight six suit and had looted millions. With this he wanted to finance his research and create monsters himself, which has not been possible before. Now he actually seems to have made it. However, he was caught and sent to prison, where he has disappeared since he tried to escape. His cellmate was Jeremiah Wickles, who is now free. The Mystery AG examined him on his family ancestral home and gets the same in a pitfall. After freeing themselves, they roam the castle and find a book by Jacobo that contains a combination of sorcery and science. So you are not surprised that you will soon face a black knight spirit. In the fight against the monster, the clever Velma searches the magic book and finds a solution to defeat it.

The Mystery AG drives back to the museum, where Jacobo appears again and makes it clear that the city will soon be his. This debacle is a hit for the press, the super detectives are correspondingly depressed how such a humiliation could happen to them of all people. Shaggy and Scooby-Doo now decide to be real detectives and investigate on their own. You discover a ghost town. There they come across a huge underground laboratory with various substances that they can try out and briefly turn into very different monsters. After Fred, Daphne and Velma join them again, they discover a regular factory to create monsters. Shaggy and Scooby-Doo accidentally activate the machinery and numerous monsters attack them, which now also enter the city and take it completely. The most frightened citizens are even ready to hand over the Mystery AG to get rid of the monsters. So the super detectives have to hide and bring the control unit that they had taken from the monster factory to safety. Velma comes up with the idea of reprogramming this control unit in order to undo the monster creation. On the way back to the factory, where they want to reinstall the control unit, they are attacked by monsters. The Black Knight Spirit tries to stop them too, but can be defeated by Fred. After Shaggy and Scooby-Doo manage to reinstall and start the control unit in the factory, all monsters are actually destroyed and they dissolve. Dr. Jonathan Jacobo is arrested and Jeremiah Wickles is rehabilitated because Jacobo had only deposited the Black Knight and the magic book with him to draw suspicion on him.

Reviews

Kevin Thomas wrote in the Los Angeles Times on March 26, 2004 that the "flood" of special effects was eclipsing the one-dimensional characters. Seth Green delivers the best performance. Matthew Lillard gives his portrayal an "antique, comical charm".

“Turbulent, partly real, partly animated entertainment film, enriched with the comic style of the animated film, brightly colored styling, music, dance and slapstick. A child-friendly movie spook in which the ghosts are defeated not only through strength and cunning, but also through friendship and loyalty. "
