The Radio-Tatort ( proper spelling : ARD Radio Tatort and radiotatort ) is a radio play series produced by the ARD state broadcasters and broadcast throughout the ARD . The first episode aired in January 2008, and a new radio play has been broadcast almost every month since then. No regular episode exceeds the maximum length of 55 minutes, so it can be easily inserted between two message blocks.

history

The concept of the radio crime scene is similar to that of the crime scene on television: each of the nine state broadcasters produces episodes in which a mostly fixed and regionally rooted team of investigators investigates crimes - often homicides.

The broadcast takes place via the cultural programs of the radio stations, postponed by one to two weeks. The radio play series has its own website from the start. The radio plays have been available for download there since January 2015 for one year from their first broadcast and can also be subscribed to as podcasts . In earlier episodes, the download period was significantly shorter or mostly only excerpts were available. In addition, the first twelve episodes of the Hörverlag were commercially available on CD and some episodes of the SWR are distributed through Audible .

With the radio crime scene , the cooperation between the ARD stations was strengthened. Two years after the start of the detective radio series, another Germany-wide radio series started in January 2010 with the ARD radio feature . As the title shows, it specializes in documentary broadcasts (“ radio features ”).

The monthly broadcast of a new case has so far been interrupted five times:

  • In January 2012, the episode produced for the SWR could not be completed on time. Because no other broadcaster had already produced a finished radio play, the murder run from 2008 was repeated instead .
  • In August 2015, the Baginsky episode from August 2012 was repeated.
  • In November 2017, the episode dregs from October 2011 was repeated.
  • In August 2019, the episode Malina of the WDR team from February 2014 was repeated.
  • In July 2020, the episode Fathers and Daughters from July 2013 was repeated.

On the 10th anniversary of the radio crime scene, the 2-hour special episode Paradise City about the investigators of the "Task Force Hamm" was recorded. In it, the respective investigators of the other 8 broadcasters have a small guest appearance. The special episode was broadcast once in all broadcasters on January 13, 2018. The 54-minute short version was broadcast the following week.

From the second half of 2019, the investigative teams at some broadcasters were replaced by successors, starting with Berlin, Bavaria and Bremen. In addition, a team of investigators from Switzerland joined the SRF for the first time.

Radio play episodes

146 episodes have been produced since 2008 (as of July 2020).

Cover

Each episode has a title motif by the illustrator Jürgen Frey .

It is intended that the characters involved are not shown in the illustrations so as not to influence the listener with a given image. Instead, elements of the plot are shown.

The title motifs of the first twelve episodes were shown in black and white, later the color yellow was also used, now also red. The level of detail is deliberately kept low in order to enable a greatly reduced display on the ARD website.

reception

The series has so far found a total of over a million listeners, of whom "more than half [...] had given it a good to very good grade," according to an ARD trend study in summer 2011.

Trivia

In the first episode ( The Emir ), Chief Inspector Fischer ( Hilmar Eichhorn ) from Magdeburg calls his colleagues from LKA Düsseldorf (Chief Inspector there Nadir Taraki, played by Baki Davrak ). One month later, Fischer had his first case and referred to the Düsseldorf case in a conversation with his colleague de Beer. Both Magdeburg officials have another guest appearance in the murder run by the SWR. Thus, Chief Inspector Fischer already has three missions in the first year of the crime scene, even if only two as a guest inspector. The radio series is thus based on the television crime scene, where a guest commissioner appeared in almost every episode in the first few years.

The episodes of the Bayerischer Rundfunk take place in the fictional town of Bruck am Inn, but the stories by author Robert Hältner are based on real people and actual criminal cases.

The episodes Scream of the Geese (Fall of the Masked Man ) and The Invisible ( Heilbronn Phantom ) are based on authentic cases. The author John von Düffel carried out an investigation at the Bremen police headquarters.

The investigator Nadir Taraki from Düsseldorf was spoken by Baki Davrak in the first four episodes. Mark Waschke took over his role from February 2010 to August 2011 .

After three episodes with Chief Inspector Raimund Falk and his father Camillo, the Hessischer Rundfunk changed investigators. From October 2011 to October 2016, Chief Inspector Nebe ( Sebastian Blomberg ), with no given name, was in action in Rotenburg an der Fulda. After the surprising death of the author Friedemann Schulz , the series about Chief Inspector Nebe is not continued. Since November 2018 , the commissioner Haas ( Felix von Manteuffel ) created by the writer Martin Mosebach has been investigating for the hr.

After the Hessischer Rundfunk, the Westdeutscher Rundfunk also exchanged its investigators in early 2012. Previously, an investigation was carried out at the State Criminal Police Office in Düsseldorf and now Chief Inspector Scholz (Uwe Ochsenknecht) is investigating together with Lenz, who was forcibly transferred from the LKA to Hamm in the so-called Task Force Hamm. The first case of this team was broadcast outside the radio crime scene at the end of 2011 as part of the murder mystery festival Mord am Hellweg .

In June and July 2017, two episodes of a state broadcaster were broadcast for the first time in two consecutive months. The consequences of personal injury and bereavement build on each other in terms of content and thus represent a double sequence. This is also the last appearance by Bremen investigator Claudia Evernich and public prosecutor Dr. Kurt Groeninger.

The episode Paradise City with the main characters from Hamm exists in two different versions. First of all, an anniversary version with a running time of around 112 minutes was broadcast, in which all other teams also appear. On the other hand, a version shortened to approx. 54 minutes in which the appearances of the other teams are significantly reduced was broadcast on the regular broadcasting slot of the radio crime scene. Both versions are or were officially available for download.
