Who turns around or laughs ... is a detective radio play from the series of the radio crime scene . The original text comes from John von Düffel , who has already written the script for several radio crime scenes for Radio Bremen around the Bremen investigator duo Chief Inspector Claudia Evernich and Claas Berding as well as the accompanying public prosecutor Dr. Kurt Gröninger delivered. Who Turns Around or Laughs was broadcast for the first time on May 16, 2011.

The present 42nd case of the entire series and fourth case of the Bremen crime scene tragically combines the almost manic admiration of a law student for public prosecutor Kurt Gröninger and the discovery of a fatally fallen senior citizen in a house in the Vahr . The accident is interpreted so much as an attempted murder by a psychologically pre-damaged family member that in the end even Gröninger is found to be a murder suspect. Nevertheless, in this case of the Bremen investigator duo, whose central topic is stalking, there is no actual murder case and Gröninger rises for the second time after the previous episode The Fifth Commandment in the respect of the commissioner.

content

At the beginning of the case, prosecutor Dr. Kurt Gröninger gave a guest lecture at the law faculty of the University of Bremen . The central point of the lecture, which is dry for most of the audience, is the topic of justice . This would at the same time be the most abused and the highest good within a legal system. Therefore, it is always important to guarantee justice. After the lecture, the young, attractive student Katharina intercepts him and covers the recognizable embarrassed but receptive Gröninger with compliments. Against his hesitant resistance, she invites him to have coffee in the cafeteria in order to be able to talk about his topic and a matter that concerns herself.

Meanwhile, Chief Inspector Claudia Evernich and her assistant Claas Berding drive to a slightly neglected house in Bremen- Vahr. The colleagues had been alerted by the emergency service , as the finding of a fatally fallen pensioner had been preceded by an anonymous emergency call . However, neither find any evidence of outside interference and thus an act of violence: The elderly woman seems to have fallen down the stairs in a dressing gown, due to a fractured thigh neck she could no longer move and ultimately died of her internal injuries. The morning newspaper and a bag of breakfast rolls are still lying on the mat in front of the front door, which, as a supposed delivery service, is irritating, but does not change anything in the end result. In addition, it will later be determined by the examination results of the pathologist Dr. Michel confirmed. A neighbor who initially thinks the two investigators are burglars can, however, provide them with further information about the family circumstances of the deceased. Svetlana Pleve, a Russian repatriate , probably lived relatively withdrawn and lonely despite her two children. The son would only have come if he had begged for money. Earlier go off the rails, he had as a former drug addict because of drug-related crime also turned eat. The daughter would have made it something, studying law, but only went to see the old woman once a week for a few hours.

Since the two police officers were unable to follow Gröninger's lecture due to their work, they praised its effect the next morning with the words of the local radio station. But to Evernich's astonishment, Gröninger has something else in mind. He insists hesitantly, but nevertheless firmly, on the continuation of the investigation, since he would personally have suspicions for an act of violence. It is only after the chief inspector's probing follow-up that he uncovers the source, somewhat embarrassed: It is Katharina Pleve, the law student, who suspects her brother Dimitri of knocking their mother down the stairs in an argument about money. Berding and Evernich reluctantly take up the investigation, although they do not like the public prosecutor's personal influence and concern.

Even Gröninger has to realize that he was obviously wrong about Katharina's being. The young woman shows all signs of a stalker in her manic demand for her goal of “justice”, that is, the prosecution of her brother, and the unconditional personal attention of Gröninger . Regardless of this, Claas Berding also did not have a very good impression of Katharina when he visited her in her shared apartment with her celebrity friend Irina. Katherina looks like a Russian top model with a doctorate, but both young women are “not his personality type”. When examining the telephone connections, however, it is discovered that Dimitri Pleve was behind the anonymous call. Despite his rehabilitation over the past six years, he becomes a suspect. He admits that he fought with his mother a lot, but that wouldn't kill his mother. On the morning in question he had brought her the rolls and the newspaper early. After it did not open immediately, he would have driven home first. After two hours, however, when both were still on the door mat, he opened the door and found his dead mother. For fear of being suspected of an act of violence, he therefore notified the emergency service. The police therefore take him into custody.

Meanwhile, Evernich Gröninger warns to continue to be involved in the case because of clear bias and Katherina's stalking. The young public prosecutor just sees this when both have to discover that Katherina has stabbed his bicycle tires and provocatively throws the murderous tool, a steak knife, at his feet, making hateful threats. Enervated, Gröninger let himself be released from the case and, due to the frequent calls from the young woman, took a sleeping pill before going to bed .

The next morning a surprising announcement reached the officials: Katherina Pleve was found bleeding to death by her roommate Irina in a devastated apartment. Since Dimitri Pleve is in custody, Gröninger of all people becomes the first suspect. But Berding and the emergency doctor have already noticed that the vast majority of the stab wounds and cuts were only superficial. Only one wound was life threatening. This observation is later confirmed by the pathologist, who also finds out that Katherina had taken a large dose of painkillers before she died. When Gröninger appears at the presidium with a bagged steak knife and his answering machine , Evernich worriedly wants to keep him out of the line of fire, but Gröninger saw through Katherina's fateful approach. On the answering machine, Katherina fantasizes that Dimitri is threatening and attacking her in order to further discredit her brother with the police. Due to the prophylactic pain reliever, she must have miscalculated a cut with a steak knife that struck a major vein. Since Irina had stayed away overnight and Dimitri had a rock solid alibi in custody , she miscalculated in several ways. She was not saved in time, nor could suspicions fall on her brother.

Gröninger reports that Katherina wanted to put her brother in a bad light from the start in order to exclude him from the inheritance as a convicted violent criminal . Her manic demand for justice was probably part of her psychosis . Evernich openly pays Gröninger respect for the way in which he responsibly admitted his initial mistakes and clarified the situation. Just as they are about to say goodbye, the porter hands him a mailed envelope. It is Katherina's manuscript of his lecture, in which the last page on justice was tellingly underlined twice: “There is nothing that can be worse than the lack of justice.” But in the end only Dimitri, who is otherwise innocent, was allowed to experience justice his inheritance would have been robbed.

background

When casting the supporting roles, Radio Bremen took an unusual approach by launching a competition in which fans of the radio Tatort could apply for a speaking role. From 120 interested parties, Ulrike Kolvenbach from Wüsting was selected for the role of porter. The preview took place on May 23, 2011 in the "hearable" of the Bremen theater, the first real radio broadcast saw the radio play on June 15, 2011.

In an interview with Janine Lüttmann , Radio Bremen, the author von Düffel was asked about the origin of the unusual title, to which he replied: “I've always wanted to make a story about stalking in which the victim of stalking is a man, in this case the investigating public prosecutor Dr. Gröninger, who is first embraced by a young woman, then followed. And what better way of expressing this feeling of being persecuted and having someone on your neck than the old song about the dump . "

Von Düffel clarifies technical terms or investigation details with police advisor Jan Kunze.

About the private background of the main characters, one learns in this episode that Claas Berding's grandmother still lives in the Bremen district of Vahr, he visits her regularly and she appreciates the area even today, “but she is considering at least learning a little Russian ” around herself to be able to make it understandable to the late repatriates who moved there. This explains its familiarity with the local area. Gröninger, on the other hand, reveals in his complaints about vandalism on his bicycle that he was not a native of Bremen: “That never happened to me in Bremerhaven .” In addition, the public prosecutor's office seems to be making a long-term bet about the principled, pedantic Gröninger's whereabouts . Since, contrary to the original expectations, he has endured it in Bremen for three years, his secretary Ms. Schmitz has already won the second case of sparkling wine .

review

“The table of contents seems a bit strange; a public prosecutor stalker is already challenging the listener's imagination. At first glance, it looks badly constructed and as if you had pulled your hair from Bremerhaven to Bremen. But John von Düffel knows his trade and then tells a very neat case that, despite the manageable group of perpetrators, hides the solution to the case for a long time. This also works because for a long time the listener is led to believe that the case is easy to see through - until there is a surprising twist that then seems to turn the case completely upside down. But here, too, von Düffel built the listener a little wrong way. That makes this radio play interesting and convincing right through to the end. [...] The staging does not require any frills. A straightforward production in which the music that takes a bit of getting used to may be noticed, but which also doesn't play a major role. This is mainly the responsibility of the good actors - above all Marion Breckwoldt , who puts her stamp on the play here most clearly. "
