Markus Meyer (born May 11, 1971 in Cloppenburg ) is a German actor and member of the Vienna Burgtheater ensemble .

Life

Meyer first studied biochemistry at the University of Hanover . After completing this degree, he suddenly changed his career aspirations and began training as an actor at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin , which he successfully completed in 2000. While still studying acting, he performed several times in Berlin at the Deutsche Oper , the Volksbühne and the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam , and after completing his acting training he was immediately engaged by the Berliner Ensemble , where he worked with Claus Peymann , George Tabori and Philip Tiedemann worked together. He played Aumerle in Shakespeare's Richard II , A Young Templar in Lessing's Nathan the Wise , Mr. Martin in Ionesco's The Madness of Words / The Bald Singer and Pawel Vlasow in Brecht's The Mother . In 2004 Andrea Breth brought him to Vienna for her production The Cat on the Hot Tin Roof , where he has been permanently engaged at the Burgtheater since 2005.

In Vienna he quickly established himself with different character roles in both modern and classical pieces. He was also given the opportunity to present solo programs or one-person pieces such as Mein Arm or Dorian Gray . In addition to acting, Meyer is also a tournament dancer in the fields of standard and Latin as well as an accomplished chanson singer. He has also been able to demonstrate these talents several times in Burgtheater productions. B. in Franz Wittenbrink 's How we live and always say goodbye , in which he impressed with performances from Elvis Presley to Franz Schubert , or in Andrea Breth's production of incidents , in which the dance solo by Markus Meyer was one of the highlights of the performance .
