Lars Montag (* 1971 in Bünde ) is a German film and theater director.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1990 at Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium in Bünde, Montag worked for an advertising agency in Bielefeld . He then completed his training at the School for Broadcasting Technology in Nuremberg from 1990 to 1992 , was a camera assistant at WDR in Cologne from 1992 to 1994 , studied from 1994 to 1998 at the Cologne Academy of Media Arts and graduated with a diploma.

For his eleven-minute short film Lenas Land (1999) he received the silver film college award at the International Festival of Film Schools in Munich . Since then he has directed a number of feature films and wrote several scripts.

2001 staged Monday at the stages of Cologne Ulrich stroke play blueprint , via its premiere, the ARD - Tagesthemen reported in detail. Madame Mellville was Lars Montag's second theater work. The German premiere of the piece took place in Austria on January 15, 2003, before the production went on tour through Germany and Switzerland.

Montag (together with Stephan Falk) was nominated for the 2009 German Television Prize in the “Best Book” category for the script for the Kassensturz crime scene and was awarded the 2010 ver.di Media Prize.

His film debut Loneliness and Sex and Compassion was nominated for three German Film Awards and the German Director's Award in 2017 , and Lars Montag was awarded the Best Director of Cinema Film category at the 2018 Romy Awards.

In 2020 he won a Grimme Prize , the Austrian ROMY , and the German Television Prize for his Netflix series "How to sell drugs online (fast)" .

Montag is a member of the European Cultural Parliament (ECP), of the German and European Film Academy and as a guest lecturer at the HFF Munich , the dffb Berlin and the HFF Potsdam .
