James Goldman
James Goldman (born June 30, 1927 in Chicago , Illinois , † October 28, 1998 in New York City , New York ) was an American playwright and screenwriter who wrote the screenplay for the film The Lion, based on his play of the same name Winter won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay , the Writers Guild of America Award (WGA Award) for Best US Drama and the Writers Guild of Great Britain for Best Screenplay, as well as the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award) and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Screenplay.
Life
Goldman, an older brother of the writer , screenwriter and two-time Oscar winner William Goldman , began his career as a screenwriter in the Hollywood film industry in 1966 on the television series ABC Stage 67 and wrote the templates and scripts for 14 films and television series over the course of 2003.
He had his greatest success with the screenplay for the film Der Löwe im Winter (1968) by Anthony Harvey with Peter O'Toole , Katharine Hepburn and Anthony Hopkins in the leading roles, based on his play of the same name . For this he received the Oscar for the best adapted screenplay, the WGA Award for the best US drama and the Writers Guild of Great Britain Award for the best screenplay. He was also nominated for the BAFTA Film Award and a Golden Globe for best screenplay.
