Alexander Shoemaker

Alexander Schuhmacher (* 1965 in Heidelberg ) is a freelance radio play author and director in Berlin.

He studied politics and history in Stuttgart . Before he became a radio play director, he worked as an assistant director at Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR) with Heinz von Cramer .

His first radio play of his own pen was homage to John Coltrane (SDR 1994). Since then, Alexander Schuhmacher has received numerous prizes for his radio plays and his directorial work , including the Civis Prize in 2003 , the Silver World Medal of the New York Festival in 2004, the Kurd-Laßwitz Prize in 2005 , several awards for radio play of the month and in 2008 for the audio book of the Year.

The first audio book publication of one of his radio play adaptations ( The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho ) was awarded the Golden CD in 2005 and the Platinum CD in 2009 for over 250,000 copies sold.
