The nature reserve Feldgehölz Almenscheid with a size of 1.0  ha is located around 1 km east of Altenhellefeld in the urban area of Sundern (Sauerland) . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) with an area of 0.9 ha for the first time in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerland district . When the landscape planner Sundern was reorganized, the NSG was again identified and enlarged. The NSG borders directly to the north on the landscape protection area Seitental der Arpe and otherwise the landscape protection area for agricultural priority areas borders between Altenhellefeld, Grevenstein and Visbeck .

Area description

The Almenscheid field wood is a species-rich mixed deciduous tree. The ground of the nature reserve is covered with a species-rich herb layer. The subsoil is a sparganophyllum lime on which a shallow and skeletal soil lies.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was established to protect its high biodiversity with Red List plant species and its biogeographical importance. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
