Müggenohl nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Müggenohl nature reserve with a size of 3.4 hectares is located northeast of Wildewiese and the Schomberg in the urban area of Sundern (Sauerland) . The area was designated in 1993 with the landscape plan Sundern by the Hochsauerlandkreis as a nature reserve (NSG) with the name nature reserve Schluchtwald Müggenholl . During the redesign of the Sundern landscape plan in 2019, the NSG was identified again with a changed name. The NSG goes to the city and district limits. The nature reserve forest biotope complex Alsenberg / Schneebecke / Schlüsselsiepen is only a few meters further north of the NSG Schluchtwald Müggenhohl .

Area description

The NSG lies in a deep indented valley that runs from west to east and is surrounded by coniferous forest. On both sides of the source stream, in the gorge-like, humid Kerbtal valley, there is a narrow sycamore gorge forest, rich in old and dead wood, in some cases multi-stemmed . In the NSG there is an individual occurrence of the persistent silver leaf . The gorge forest is heterogeneous in age with lying and standing dead wood, e.g. T. due to wind break. To the south-west, the natural source stream continues upstream and the Ahorn gorge forest outside the NSG in the Olpe district . In the NSG, the ravine forest merges up the slope into a grove beech forest, which in places still has coppice forest use characteristics. In the north of the NSG there is also a stand of larch trees within the NSG, in the east there are spruce trees directly on the Quellbach.

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect the ravine forest and other forest areas with the source and source stream with the species there. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
