The nature reserve extensive grassland south of Hagen with an area of ​​0.3  ha is located south of Hagen in the urban area of Sundern (Sauerland) in the Hochsauerland district . The area was designated in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis as a nature reserve with the name Naturschutzgebiet Grünlandbrache south of Hagen . When the landscape planner Sundern was reorganized, the NSG was identified again. The NSG is located on the slope of the Stühlhahn Mountain . The NSG borders directly to the west on the buildings of Recklinghausen and Sundern-Oberröhre. In the east, the landscape protection area borders on the outskirts of Hagen and otherwise on the landscape protection area of ​​the valley of Echler- and Rohrsiepen .

In the specialist information system of the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection North Rhine-Westphalia , the name Naturschutzgebiet Grünlandbrache southeast of Hagen is incorrectly stated .

Area description

The area is a spring trough with grassland in a nameless side valley of the Rohrsiepen. The area is mainly covered by species-rich meadowsweet meadows . On the north and east edge of the NSG there is a dense wooded area. There is a gravel road on the northern border. The NSG is surrounded by grassland.

In the NSG there are species of wet meadows such as marsh marigold and moist tall herbaceous vegetation such as meadowsweet.

The city of Sundern leased the area for many years until 2020. It has been owned by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2020.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was established to protect an endangered biocenosis with high structural diversity and value for butterflies and meadow birds. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
