The Nassweide nature reserve south of the large Kamp, with a size of 1 hectare, was located between Seidfeld and Illingheim in the urban area of Sundern (Sauerland) . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan . The NSG is located directly south of the K5 district road. There is an asphalt farm road south of the area. When the landscape plan Sundern 2019 was reorganized, the NSG status was no longer applicable. Parts of the area with protected biotopes were added to the landscape protection area of the valley area of the Settmecke and the Bermecke , the rest of the area became part of the landscape protection area outskirts and agricultural priority areas in the landscape between Amecke, Bruchhausen, Allendorf and Stockum .

Area description

The area is a grassland area and an adjacent pond to the west. The grassland area partly has the character of a wet pasture. It is a gently sunk into the terrain, swelling in the deepest areas. Intensive grasslands connect to the west and east. The entire area is characterized by its small-scale alternation from fresh and moist to wet areas, resulting in a mosaic of fresh and moist grassland and moist to wet tall herbaceous vegetation. Basically, two areas can be distinguished. The small western spring basin, which was taken out of use more than 28 years ago, has now been completely used up and has developed into a moist to wet tall herbaceous area. Meadowsweet and nettle are dominant, but species such as marsh marigold, forest ledges or brook bungees can still be found in some areas. The former quite large orchid occurrence with spotted orchid at the time of the NSG designation in the 1990s has disappeared. The basin, rich in relics, stretching from south to north, was mapped as a protected biotope until 2005. In 2005 it was still grazed, currently it is mowed and has probably been intensified. Only in three places within the NSG and in a part of the area to the east outside of the NSG that was newly mapped in 2013 were floodplain areas with a sufficient number of moisture indicators for addressing as a §42 biotope. The biodiversity here has also decreased compared to the 2005 mapping. In the northwest there is a small bush, mainly made up of hazel and sloe. The reason for the disappearance of the large occurrence of orchids is probably the abandonment of the western spring basin.

Protection purpose

The nature reserve was established to preserve a refuge biotope for a red list plant species and to protect a spawning area for amphibians . Furthermore, the high structural diversity of the area should be protected. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.

Loss of NSG status

The biodiversity had decreased in the 2000 years. The reason for the disappearance of the large occurrence of orchids is probably the abandonment of the western spring basin. The rest of the area was also temporarily fallow. Nevertheless, the area was still a legally protected biotope according to § 30 BNatSchG in 2019 or in the last mapping in 2012 . Which was also listed in the biotope register of the LANUV . But an NSG status would be in the way of an industrial area planned for the future, which should be between Seidfeld and Illingheim. It was designated as a type B landscape protection area , so permits for interventions or development are made more quickly.
