The State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection North Rhine-Westphalia (LANUV) is a scientific and technical authority of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia . The State Office is assigned to the Ministry for the Environment and Nature Conservation, Agriculture and Consumer Protection . The state office with its headquarters in Recklinghausen has, in addition to the offices in Essen and Düsseldorf, other branch offices nationwide. The office in Düsseldorf will move to Duisburg by the end of 2018 . The new location in Duisburg will become a state-wide center for water protection and water monitoring for North Rhine-Westphalia.

tasks

The wide range of tasks of the State Office includes nature conservation , environmental analysis , environmental and consumer protection reporting as well as tasks in the areas of air quality, immissions , radiation protection , systems engineering and water management . It also operates the North Rhine-Westphalia air quality monitoring system and maintains its own laboratory ship, the Max Prüss, to monitor the water quality of the rivers and canals in North Rhine-Westphalia . In addition, it specifies the number and type of samples from the areas of food, consumer goods and veterinary monitoring that are examined and assessed by the chemical and veterinary inspection offices .

As part of the training to become a state-certified food chemist in North Rhine-Westphalia, the LANUV takes on the coordination and the oral part of the exams.

history

The State Office was created on January 1, 2007 from the merger of the State Institute for Ecology, Land Management and Forests NRW (LÖBF) with the State Environment Office (LUA) and the State Office for Food and Hunting (LEJ) as well as with parts of the district governments.
