The Chemical and Veterinary Investigation Office Ostwestfalen-Lippe (CVUA OWL) is an institution under public law . The task of the CVUA OWL is the examination and assessment of samples from the areas of food and veterinary monitoring as well as consumer goods. Every year around 400,000 samples from the areas of consumer health protection, animal health and environmental protection are examined. The number of samples is determined by the State Office for Nature, the Environment and Consumer Protection in North Rhine-Westphalia and taken on site by the food inspectors from the local food control department . Support the institution are the state North Rhine-Westphalia, the independent city Bielefeld and the six counties of the district of Detmold Gütersloh , Herford , Höxter , Lippe , Minden-Lübbecke and Paderborn district .
Emergence
The CVUA OWL is the first of the planned four integrated state investigation offices in North Rhine-Westphalia. The three previous municipal institutions (chemical investigation office of the city of Bielefeld, chemical and food investigation office of the Paderborn district, state veterinary investigation office Detmold) were transferred to the CVUA OWL as part of a pilot project. This laid the foundations for the transfer of the other investigation offices in NRW to integrated investigation offices. On May 12, 2011, a € 12 million new building was inaugurated as the central location in Detmold.
Catchment area
The CVUA Ostwestfalen-Lippe is responsible for the administrative district of Detmold with a total of approx. 2 million inhabitants and thus includes the areas of the supporting municipalities.
