Nature reserve Schatthangwald Hohe Liete

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Schatthangwald Hohe Liete with a size of 0.9  ha is located northwest of Meinkenbracht in the urban area of Sundern (Sauerland) . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) with an area of 0.73 ha for the first time in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis . When the landscape planner Sundern was reorganized, the NSG was shown again and enlarged a little. The NSG is surrounded by the Sundern nature reserve .

Area description

Maple-ash forest on an east-facing central slope above the Linnepetal . The small canyon forest-like stock shows only a few old trees. The dense, in places impenetrable young growth of maple and ash as well as other hardwoods characterize the existence. Despite the dense woody cover, the herbaceous layer is rich in species, locally characterized by larger stands of ferns. The stock grows on a gravel-rich tendril and has an important slope protection function here. The presumably autochthonous deciduous forest is surrounded by spruce forest. There is an occurrence of the onion tooth root in the reserve .

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the area with the species there. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
