Nature reserve Hagener Niederwälder

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Hagener Niederwälder with 30.8  hectares is located east of Hagen in the urban area of Sundern and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2019 with the Sundern landscape plan . Before that, the area was part of the Sundern nature reserve from 1993 . The NSG consists of five sub-areas. The NSG goes to the edge of the village and is mostly surrounded by spruce forests in the Sundern nature reserve.

description

The landscape plan explains the nature reserve: “The structurally rich deciduous forest complex on mainly south-facing and steep slopes directly north of the locality of Hagen consists almost entirely of more or less overgrown coppice forests, the surroundings of which are dominated by extensive spruce cultures. The forest stands parallel to the slope through several forest roads. For the most part, due to their use, they are birch-oak coppice forests. On the lower slopes they also merge in small areas and on the northern part of the area as a whole in oak-beech coppice forests with birch. The shrub and herb layers are mostly uneven, with the herb layer being dominated in many places by grasses and berry bushes. On the steep forest floor, rock ribs emerge in places. "

The landscape plan shows the nature reserves with coppice in the city of Sundern: “There are still numerous, mostly well-developed coppice areas in the planning area. As relics of a historical form of forest management, they represent evidence of the cultural landscape of this area. With the resumption and continuation of the Niederwald-type management form, the present area takes a special position, mainly due to the population sizes used in connection with the coppice forest and the potential of its neighboring or connecting areas within a coppice forest network system a."

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, the designation took place:

  • "Protection of a valuable forest (management) type, from a faunistic, vegetation and cultural-historical point of view;"
  • "Preservation and optimization of a species-rich (low) forest area through management adapted to the type of forest."
  • "Development of a Niederwaldgesellschaft on a potential location."
  • "The NSG also serves to sustainably secure the occurrence of rare animal and plant species."

Development measure

In the landscape plan, the following was laid down as an additional development measure: "In order to maintain the traditional forest management method, the use of the coppice forest on the area must be continued or resumed within the framework of contractual regulations (Section 26 LG)."
