Bremke and Hermessiepen nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bremke and Hermessiepen nature reserve with 18  hectares is located between Sorpesee and Sundern in the Hochsauerland district . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2019 with the Sundern landscape plan . From 1993 the area was designated as part of the Sundern nature reserve. With the exception of the upper reaches of the central tributary, the NSG is only surrounded by spruce forest which is part of the Sundern nature reserve.

description

The landscape plan explains the NSG: “The NSG is a near-natural water system of the two eponymous Siepen is with their inlets. There are spring zones with some seepage springs in the area. The upper streams are hardly affected over a long stretch of the river. Accompanied by the stream, there are spring-seeped alder floodplain forests with small peat moss cushions. The alders show coppice forest use characteristics with their multi-stemmed structure . Some sections of the floodplain are characterized by spruce forests. In the spruce forest by the streams, the typical fragments of the spring fields of the potential brook-alder-ash forest are also present. In some areas, trees suitable for the location such as alder, ash and maple have been planted under in the spruce forest. Spruce natural regeneration can also be found everywhere in the NSG. ”The streams are slightly dammed at forest paths crossing the floodplain areas.

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, it was designated as:

  • "Protection, preservation and development of a Siepental complex and its communities characterized by natural springs and flowing water sections as well as in parts near-natural stream floodplain forests and its communities through natural forest management in a forest landscape dominated by coniferous forests;"
  • "Development of the near-natural hardwood stands as a networking biotope and refuge habitat by converting the coniferous forests that accompany the stream into deciduous forests that are appropriate to the location;"
  • "Development of near-natural river dynamics."
  • "The NSG also serves to sustainably secure habitats that are particularly worthy of protection according to § 30 BNatschG and the occurrence of rare animal and plant species."

Development measures

In the landscape plan, the following was laid down as additional development measures: “Existing and emerging coniferous wood - including natural spruce regeneration - is to be removed regularly, primarily on the floodplain sites (Section 26 LG); The extensions that impair the water dynamics are to be removed (Section 26 LG).
