The Piepenbruch nature reserve with an area of 2.3 hectares is located east of Langscheid in the urban area of Sundern and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2019 with the Sundern landscape plan . Before that, the area in the Sundern landscape plan from 1993 was without any protection designation. The NSG is surrounded by the Flasmecketal nature reserve .

When NSG is swellig wet, z. Partly rushed pastures on the grassland used east-exposed valley slope to the Flasmecke stream. The wet and humid grassland is the habitat of rare plant and bird species.
The landscape plan lists the value of the NSG: “Wet pastures, a formerly more widespread type of grassland in the low mountain range, are now only relatively rare and are therefore particularly worth preserving. The area is therefore of considerable importance as a stepping stone biotope. "
Protection purpose
According to the landscape plan, it was designated as:
- "Protection, conservation and development of wet grassland and its communities as stepping stone and refuge biotopes in intensively used agricultural landscapes."
- "The NSG also serves to sustainably secure habitats that are particularly worthy of protection according to § 30 BNatschG and the occurrence of rare animal and plant species."

For the NSG, a special requirement was issued, "The grassland is to be grazed, preferably in accordance with the current management instructions" Pasture "of the HSK's cultural landscape maintenance program."
