"Ordem e Progresso" in the flag of Brazil

Ordem e Progresso [ ɔɾdeĩ i pɾu'gɾɛsu ], Portuguese for order and progress , is the motto of Brazil and, as a white banner, part of the flag of Brazil . The motto is derived from the positivism way of thinking . The motto goes back to the French Auguste Comte , whose philosophy the founding fathers of the republic adhered to.

In Brazil, positivism gained considerable influence in the political and social structure as an ideology that was close to liberalism as well as demanding social justice. The Positivist Community of Brazil still exists today with temples in Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba and Porto Alegre. Love, respect and appreciation for parents and ancestors, the social institutions, the homeland, and humanity in general are the key points of the idea.
