from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Niederwälder nature reserve on the western slope of the Rachenberg, with an area of 14.8  hectares, is located south of Endorf in the urban area of Sundern and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2019 with the Sundern landscape plan . Before that, the area was part of the Sundern nature reserve from 1993 . The NSG goes to the edge of the village. The NSG is surrounded by spruce forest which is part of the Sundern nature reserve. The NSG partly borders directly on the K 33 to Endorferhütte .

description

The landscape plan explains the nature reserve: “The NSG is a beech-oak coppice forest on steep slopes of the Rachenberg that are exposed to the west. In the herb layer there are grassy areas and areas marked with blueberries . Whereby the blueberry occurs predominantly in areas with local dominance of the oak. In the south of the NSG natural rocks emerge on steep slopes. "

The landscape plan shows the nature reserves with coppice in the city of Sundern: “In the Sundern landscape area there are still numerous coppice areas which have also been designated as nature reserves. These coppice forest areas are relics of a historical form of forest management or evidence of the cultural landscape of this area. According to the landscape plan, the NSG occupies a special position within a coppice forest network system. "

Protection purpose

  • "Protection of a valuable forest (management) type, in places with rocky cliffs, from a geological, faunistic, vegetation and cultural-historical point of view;"
  • "Preservation and optimization of a species-rich coppice forest area on a rocky-stony site in places through a management adapted to the forest type."
  • "The NSG also serves to sustainably secure the occurrence of rare animal and plant species."

Development measure

In the landscape plan, the following was laid down as an additional development measure: "In order to maintain the traditional forest management method, the use of the coppice forest on the area must be continued or resumed within the framework of contractual regulations (Section 26 LG)."
