The Hermkesiepensystem nature reserve with a size of 14.2 ha is located northwest of Amecke in the urban area of Sundern (Sauerland) . The area was established in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan by the Hochsauerlandkreis as a nature reserve (NSG) with an area of 1.2 ha reported. During the reorganization of the Sundern landscape plan, the NSG was shown again and significantly enlarged. Only the L 687 separates the NSG from the Sorpesee . The NSG is surrounded by the Sundern nature reserve .

description

It includes the Hermkesiepen and a nameless forest siepen . The wooded brook meadow is characterized on the one hand by a very natural brook course and largely unimpaired seepage springs with spring corridors. Equally noteworthy are the large stretches of stock-forming, but sometimes only very narrow stream-accompanying alder floodplain forests. To the west of a hunting lodge that does not belong to the NSG , a part of the adjacent birch-oak forest has been included. In some areas, spruce cultures often border the respective streams. Relic-like, fragmentary spring corridors can be found in the old spruce. Noteworthy are the lichen occurrences, especially on the oaks and the conspicuous, partly widespread moss pads including peat moss pads.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the Siepental and the species there. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”. According to the landscape plan, the designation was made specifically for:

  • "Protection, preservation and development of a Siepental and its communities characterized by natural springs and spring streams as well as near-natural stream floodplain forests;"
  • "Preservation of the near-natural hardwood stocks, among other things as a networking biotope through natural forest management, and development of forest communities along the water system, in particular through the restocking of the stream-accompanying softwood forests in local deciduous forests that are appropriate to the location."
  • "The NSG also serves to sustainably secure habitats that are particularly worthy of protection according to § 30 BNatschG and the occurrence of rare animal and plant species. "

Development measures

The following additional development measures were set out in the landscape plan:

  • "Existing and emerging softwood - including natural spruce regeneration - must be removed (§ 26 LG); "
  • "After an initial planting of local hardwood suitable for the location, the cleared areas are to be left to succession (§ 26 LG); "
  • "Lichen-covered trees are to be withdrawn from use (§ 26 LG). "
