Grasberg nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Grasberg with a size of 7.3 hectares was located northwest of Hachen in the urban area of Sundern (Sauerland) . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan . When the Sundern landscape plan was re-established in 2019, the NSG with the Effenberg nature reserve and other areas became the mixed forests nature reserve south of the Effenberg with an area of 39.7 hectares.

Habitats

The NSG Grasberg is a forest area with mixed beech and oak forests and limestone rocks, while spruce forests are in the area. It was northwest of the hilltop of the Grasberg. In the area there is a natural limestone rock face about 120 m long and exposed to the west with up to 15 m high, mostly almost vertical, predominantly fern, moss and lichen-grown, e.g. Some rocks overhanging with ivy. In the immediate vicinity of the rocks there are some summer linden trees . Further south of the large rock face there is a small band of rock up to 4 m high. The near and far surroundings of the rocks are rich in structure and old wood, z. Planted in partly deadwood-rich beech and mixed oak forests. They are mostly strong red beeches and grape oaks which were up to 180 years old at the time of their designation in 1993. Spruce, birch, ash and other tree species were also mixed in on the lower slopes in the east of the NSG. The sparse shrub layer, which is only developed in places, is mostly limited to natural beech regeneration. The herb layer shows low to medium degrees of cover and mostly indicates a more alkaline rush-beech forest location, on the shallow steep slopes below the large rock face there is also a woodruff or pearl grass beech forest location in small areas. In 1993 the forest here had a plenter forest structure in places due to a recent removal of old wood .

Protection purpose

In addition to the same protection purposes for all nature reserves in the landscape plan, a special protection purpose was defined for the NSG Grasbergt: “Protection of the regional geoscientific interesting rock cliffs made of cypridene slate. In addition to the high structural diversity of the protected area with refuge value for mollusks, the occurrence of Tilia platyphyllos is still interesting. "
