Effenberg nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Effenberg nature reserve with a size of 11.4 hectares was located northwest of Hachen in the urban area of Sundern (Sauerland) . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan . The NSG went at one point to the city limits of Arnsberg . When the Sundern landscape plan was re-established in 2019, the NSG with the Grasberg nature reserve and other areas became the mixed forests nature reserve south of the Effenberg with 39.7 hectares of land.

description

The Effenberg nature reserve was an old beech forest on moderately steep to steep slopes in a west and east exposed location on the Effenberg. Many trees reached a trunk diameter of 70 cm when the protected area was designated . Other tree species are added to the individual trunk. Beech trees with natural regeneration are scattered in the area. The herb layer is lush and often occurs in clumps and herds. Spruce trees have been planted at one point on the edge. The beech forest is structured by several eight to ten m high, steep to stepped cliff complexes of gray and red Kramenzel and slab limestone. The cliffs are characterized by a lush, fern and moss-rich rock vegetation. There is a small spring on the western lower slope.

Protection purpose

In addition to the same protection purposes for all nature reserves in the landscape plan, a special protection purpose was defined for the NSG Grasbergt: “Protection of the structurally diverse beech population with blasted limestone cliffs. On the regionally important lime site, a species-rich plant community with z. T. developed biogeographical importance. The rock cliffs are interesting as a geoscientific object for research. "
