Katenberg nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Katenberg with a size of 9.8  hectares is located northwest of Enkhausen in the urban area of Sundern (Sauerland) . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) with an area of 9.5 hectares for the first time in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis . When the landscape planner Sundern was reorganized, the NSG was again identified and enlarged. The NSG is directly adjacent to four different landscape protection areas. The Läusebrink nature reserve is separated from a field path and a meadow in the west. The NSG is directly adjacent to Bundesstraße 229 in the south . The village of Enkhausen is only a few meters away from the NSG border.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the area with the species there. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
