Hellefelder Höhe nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hellefelder Höhe nature reserve with an area of 72.2  hectares is located north of Hellefeld in the urban area of Sundern and in the Hochsauerland district . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2019 with the Sundern landscape plan . From 1993 it was designated as part of the Sundern nature reserve. The NSG area has belonged to the FFH area of the Obereimer Forest Reserve (DE-4513-303) since 2004, with the exception of a south-western part . The NSG extends to the city limits and consists of two sub-areas. The Hellefelder Höhe composting plant is located south of the protected area . Until 1992, there was a fuel depot for the Belgian military on the current site of the Hellefelder Höhe composting plant. After the withdrawal of the Belgian military, the warehouse stood empty until it was converted into a composting plant in 1997.

description

The NSG is a forest area with extensive beech and beech-softwood mixed stands that are not very old. The landscape plan explains the nature reserve: “In the area, however, there are also large-scale, rejuvenated beech trees with sessile oak mixed in individually or in groups. The hardwood sub-areas are separated from each other by spruce stands, often of the age of poles or trees. In some of these spruce stands, beech pre-cultivation has already begun, others are showing natural regeneration of spruce. In the NSG there are sieves draining northwards with near-natural creek-accompanying alder forests. In the central area of the protected area there is an extensive birch forest rich in peat moss, which is evidently an over-formed alder forest, on soils that are damp to waterlogged in the source area of the Steimkerbach. "

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, it was designated as:

  • "Protection and conservation of beech forest stands;"
  • "Protection and development of forest communities through reconstruction of the species inventory and through networking;"
  • "Protection, conservation and development of rivers and the forest communities accompanying the stream;"
  • "Securing the wilderness areas WG-HSK-0012-02 and WG-HSK-0012-03;"
  • "Ensuring the coherence and implementation of the European system of protected areas Natura 2000. "
  • "The NSG also serves to sustainably secure habitats that are particularly worthy of protection according to § 30 BNatschG ."

Bid for NSG

For the NSG, the requirement was stipulated that the stipulated extension of the deciduous forest to the entire NSG takes place with payment of an appropriate compensation.
