The nature reserve Upper Walpketal with an area of ​​5.6  hectares is located south of Wennigloh in the urban area of Sundern and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2019 with the Sundern landscape plan . The area was previously designated as part of the Sundern nature reserve. The NSG is surrounded in the west by spruce forest which is part of the Sundern nature reserve. In the east, the NSG borders directly on the city limits from Sundern to Arnsberg .
