Nature reserve on the hall

The nature reserve Auf dem Saal with an area of 6.1  hectares is located southwest of the hamlet of Saal (Sundern) or Hagen (Sundern) in the urban area of Sundern and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2019 with the Sundern landscape plan . From 1993 the area was designated as part of the Sundern nature reserve. The NSG extends to the city and district limits. The area is currently part of the Sundern nature reserve. The L 687 runs right through the quarry area, but is already in the Olpe district or in the urban area of Finnentrop .

description

The NSG is the northern part of the disused former sandstone quarry Auf dem Saal , located on an extremely steep, south-facing mountain slope . The southern half of the quarry is in the Olpe district. The quarry part in the HSK is divided into several plateaus lying on top of each other like terraces. In between, there are anthropogenic, sometimes moss and lichen-rich rubble heaps, which are also increasingly overgrown with birch. By far the largest areas of the quarry have already developed into species-rich pre-forest stages.

The landscape plan explains the value of the NSG: “Overall, it is a very structurally rich secondary habitat that has become a habitat for rare animal and plant species. The characteristic geological outcrop shows in places sedimentary structures and is partly fossil-bearing. "

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, the designation took place:

  • "Protection, preservation and development of an abandoned quarry as a stepping stone biotope and refuge habitat as well as for geological reasons;"
  • "The NSG also serves to sustainably secure the occurrence of rare animal and plant species."

Prohibitions and Commandments

A special ban and two requirements were issued for the NSG . Climbing is prohibited in the NSG. The commandments are "Departure ramps for hang gliders or other aircraft are to be dismantled and garbage deposits are to be removed."

Development measure

In the landscape plan, the following was laid down as an additional development measure for the NSG: "Emerging woody vegetation must be removed in the area of the rubble heaps and the water -logged areas of the invert areas (Section 26 LG)."
