Old beech wood nature reserve north of the upper Flamecke valley

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The old beech wood nature reserve north of the upper Flamecke valley with an area of 42.6  hectares is located northeast of Sundern and in the Hochsauerland district . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2019 with the Sundern landscape plan . From 1993 it was designated as part of the Sundern nature reserve. The NSG consists of three areas. The NSG is mostly surrounded by spruce forest which is part of the Sundern nature reserve.

description

The NSG consists of three old cloth stocks. The landscape plan explains the NSG: “On the middle part of a mountain slope exposed to the south there are two deeply cut sieves down the slope . In this old beech stock, oaks are mixed in with individual trunks. Spruce trees are also mixed in on the mountain top slope and between the sieves. The shrub layer is mainly composed of a well-developed natural beech regeneration. The herb layer is often less dense. In the vicinity of the stream, however, it is more species-rich. Source corridors can be found locally and only in small areas. The eastern sub-area is an old beech stock with strongly structured natural beech regeneration. The fragmented beech forest in predominantly western exposure consists of medium to thick tree wood. The herb layer has a low degree of coverage here. "

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, it was designated as:

  • "Protection and conservation of near-natural deciduous forests with spring strainers;"
  • "Securing the wilderness areas WG-HSK-0011-02 and WG-HSK-0012-04."
  • "The NSG also serves to sustainably secure habitats that are particularly worthy of protection according to § 30 BNatschG and the occurrence of rare animal and plant species."
