Selmecke nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Selmecke nature reserve, with an area of 23.8  hectares, is located between Sorpesee and Stemel in the city of Sundern and in the Hochsauerland district . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2019 with the Sundern landscape plan . Before that, the area was designated as part of the Sundern nature reserve from 1993 . The NSG is surrounded by spruce forests in the Sundern nature reserve .

description

The NSG is an approximately 2.5 km long forest sieve from the Selmecke. The stream that shapes the valley flows from several source streams converging northwards to the confluence with the Röhr . The near-natural stream floodplain biotope complex with long natural sections of flowing water, the valley floor of which is mostly bordered on both sides by forest roads. In addition to the Selmeckesiepen itself also provide most of its source streams and seepage largely unaffected and close to nature is. Also noteworthy are the faltering in large parts of the narrow Bachaue bach accompanying quellig-leaked alder forests with coppice usage characteristics in the form of Mehrstämmigkeit. In addition to the regularly occurring peat moss cushions, spruce natural regeneration which reduces the value also occurs occasionally. Only on a few stretches in the far south do spruce cultures border directly on the source streams. Two spring streams flowing in from the east are surrounded by birch-oak forests, mostly made of medium-sized tree wood, and are included in the delimitation.

In addition to the spruce cultures in the Bachaue, the numerous pipe culverts at the forest path crossings, which lead to creek damming, are significant impairments in the NSG.

The landscape plan explains the Selmecke nature reserve : “In terms of its basic equipment, the Selmeckal continues on the open route that is not designated as a NSG up to the confluence with the Röhr, one of the characteristic stream valleys of the wooded Sauerland with the special value of spring forest communities. At the same time, it marks the endangerment of these notch sole valleys, which are narrowing towards the source, from oppressive spruce cultivation. The spruce shows excellent growth performance in the younger age stages on these locations, but with increasing age the conifers are threatened by red rot. It is therefore also sensible for forestry considerations to promote deciduous tree species that are appropriate to the location. The Selmecketal has a high development potential in this regard. "

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, it was designated as:

  • "Protection and preservation of the near-natural running water system and its often peat moss-rich quarry forest sites, especially in the source area and in parts on the valley floor;"
  • "Protection Restoration and development of forest communities worthy of protection along the entire course of the river from the sources to the entry into the open land in the sense of a biotope network."
  • "The NSG also serves to sustainably secure habitats that are particularly worthy of protection according to § 30 BNatschG and the occurrence of rare animal and plant species."

Development measures

The landscape plan lists two development measures: “Existing and emerging coniferous wood - including natural spruce regeneration - is to be removed regularly, primarily from the potential spring forest sites (§ 13 LNatSchG); The cleared areas are to be left to the succession (§ 13 LNatSchG). "
