Nature reserve Schla

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schla nature reserve with a size of 3.4  hectares is located southwest of Sundern-Silmecke in the city of Sundern (Sauerland) . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) with an area of 2 ha for the first time in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis . When the landscape planner Sundern was reorganized, the NSG was again identified and enlarged. The NSG borders to the west on the landscape protection area outskirts between Stockum and Seidfeld , to the north and northeast on the landscape protection area outskirts of the city center Sundern and to the south and southeast on the landscape protection area Sundern . The NSG is located near the Hoffmann'sches site .

Area description

The NSG lies on a shallow hilltop made of limestone. The NSG is located west of an abandoned quarry. In the area there are predominantly arable land. On the hilltop there is a structure-rich, old and dead wood rich oak-hornbeam forest with medium forest use characteristics in the southwest. The species-rich, lush, geophyte-rich herb layer is mostly dominated by ringwort and pearl grass and largely corresponds to that of a woodruff beech forest. The rocky soil allows small flat rock ribs to emerge freely. The oldest trees, mostly oaks, are up to 200 years old. There is a Märzenbecher deposit there. In the east of the NSG there is a stand of spruce with an undergrowth of elderberry right up to the bushy steep face of the quarry . The rock face of the quarry does not belong to the NSG. In the north, former spruce areas have been replaced by hardwood afforestation.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the area with the species there. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
