Amecke is a district of the city of Sundern (Sauerland) in the Hochsauerland . The place has over 1700 inhabitants and is located on the south bank of the Sorpesees .

Today the local attractions include a golf course and the manor house Haus Amecke .

history

The Arnsberg Counts owned a court association here, which was first mentioned around 1155. The community Amecke was incorporated on January 1, 1975.

The Catholic St. Hubertus Church was built in 1718 and expanded from a chapel to a church in 1932. The roof was badly damaged in World War II.

A manor, which was first mentioned in a document in 1165, was considered the origin of the place. In the course of the next few years another estate was built, from which the later "Haus Amecke" emerged. In 1338 this farm passed to the von Wrede family, who own the current manor house to this day.

Until the beginning of the 20th century, the place consisted of the "Haus Amecke" and the chapel of a few buildings, mostly farms. One of the oldest is the "Haus Koch", which stands next to the Schützenhalle. In the 20th century, the population of Amecke increased significantly due to the settlement of businesses, which expanded the place and new settlements emerged.

It wasn't just the factories that drew more and more people to Sorpedorf - the dam, built between 1926 and 1934, also acted like a magnet. Amecke, which has belonged to the city of Sundern since 1975, now has around 1,800 inhabitants.
