Weninghausen is a district of Sundern in the Hochsauerlandkreis .

Location and surroundings

The place with 5 farms is in the valley of the Hortsiepen. The wind-protected valley area is climatically preferred. There is a former school at the entrance to the village. Weninghausen is surrounded by the Kahlenberg (471.6 m), the Bärenberg (392.8 m) and the Dümberg (575.5 m).

geology

The valley area consists mainly of red clay slate , in places also of red and green clay slate with lime lumps. Every now and then some sand-lime stone banks are mixed in. A Sparganophyllum limestone cliff can be seen at the edge of the path about 600 m south of the village. To the northeast is a ridge made up of alum pines and lydites .

flora

There are some remarkable species around Weninghausen. The juniper occurs in a few individual specimens. There are also abundant deposits of quaking grass and the spring sedge . The two rock-dwelling ferns, the Nordic striped fern and the black-stemmed striped fern, are particularly rare in the area .
