history

Westenfeld was first mentioned in a document in the list of properties of Count Wilhelm von Arnsberg in 1313. Like the entire county of Arnsberg, Westenfeld came to the Cologne Duchy of Westphalia in 1368 . A first chapel was built in 1490. Towards the end of the old empire the place had 177 inhabitants.

After the beginning of Prussian rule, the place became part of the new Arnsberg district in 1817 . Westenfeld belonged to the Amt of Freienohl . The local shooting club was founded in 1835. Since 1864, Westenfeld was an independent municipality. Around 1870 a paper mill was operated in the village.

The place was electrified in 1911 and there was an elementary school since 1919. From 1923 there was a parish vicarie. Various clubs and associations were founded in the 1920s and 1930s. Water pipes have been laid since 1929. The number of inhabitants was 574 in 1939. A memorial chapel was built to commemorate those who fell in World War II.

In 1946 562 people lived in Westfeld. 75 of them were evacuated and 41 were displaced. The membership of Westenfeld changed in 1952 from the office of Freienohl to the office of Sundern . A new school was built in 1955. The number of inhabitants increased to 1000 people by 1966. A new church was consecrated in 1970. The old church was converted into a residential building. In the same year a shooting range was built. A kindergarten was added to the village infrastructure in 1974.

On January 1, 1975, Westenfeld came to the city of Sundern on the basis of Section 6 of the Sauerland / Paderborn Act . A local ring of clubs and associations on site was created in 1979. In the 1980s and 1990s, industrial and residential areas were expanded. A new parish house was built in 1996. A local history association was founded in 2003.
