Philip Tiedemann (* 1969 in Gießen ) is a German director .

career

Philip Tiedemann worked from 1990 to 1992 at the Städtische Bühnen Freiburg im Breisgau , in 1992 he moved to the Theater Basel , in 1994 to the Theater Bremen . Between 1995 and 1999 he directed at the Burgtheater . Since 1999 he works at the Berliner Ensemble , where he under the direction of Claus Peymann three years senior director was. He works closely with Claus Peymann. As assistant director he was at the theaters mentioned above with directors such as Ulrich Brecht , Jürgen Kruse , Robert Hunger-Bühler , Günther Gerstner , Christian Pade , BK Tragelehn , Thomas Schulte-Michels , Markus Dietz , Johannes Klaus, Ernst Theo Richter, Ursel and Karl- Ernst Herrmann , Frank-Patrick Steckel , Tamás Ascher and Claus Peymann.

Since 2002 Tiedemann has worked as a freelance director at numerous theaters in Germany and abroad, including a. the Hamburger Schauspielhaus , the Burgtheater Vienna , the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and the Norwegian Theater in Oslo.

He became famous for his staging of the Dramolette by Thomas Bernhard , which was performed under the title Claus Peymann Buying Pants and Going to Eat with Me in the Vienna Academy Theater in the 1998–1999 season and in 2001 at the Berliner Ensemble.

Tiedemann staged several plays that deal with anti-Semitism and right-wing extremism: Rolf Hochhuth's Der Stellvertreter (2001 at the Berliner Ensemble with Hans Michael Rehberg and 2018 at the Schlosspark Theater with Georg Preusse as Pope), by Thomas Bernhard Heldenplatz (2010 in Vienna) and Jeff Baron Visit to Mr. Green (2011 in Berlin), both with Michael Degen , as well as several pieces by George Taboris (2004 Goldberg Variations in Stuttgart, 2013 Mein Kampf in Oslo, 2014 Die Kannibalen in Berlin).

Tiedemann also specialized in Bertolt Brecht (10 productions) and Peter Handke (9 productions).
