history

The origin of Wüsting is the former municipality of Holle, which was first mentioned in 1277. In 1404 historical documents mention Wosteland , which consisted of Holle and Oberhausen. In 1577 the Vogtei Wüstenland with the parishes of Holle and Neuenhuntorf was ceded to the County of Oldenburg.

In 1867 the Bremen – Oldenburg line was opened, and Wüsting was given a train station. This was closed to passenger traffic in 1978 and reopened in December 2006.

There were schools in the community since 1617 (new building in 1909) in Holle, since 1681 in Oberhausen and since 1654 in Wüsting. From 1954 to 1969 the Holler and Oberhausen children attended school in Wöschenland. Since 1969, the school in Wüsting has had its current size as a central school with the sports hall. In 1980 outdoor sports facilities were added, which were expanded in 1992. In 1980 the kindergarten in Wüsting was also opened.

The oldest church in Wüstingen is the Dionys Church in Holle, which was built around 1200 and is now Protestant. In 1956 the Protestant Heilig-Geist-Kapelle in Wüsting and in 1962 the Catholic chapel on Klosterkiel were built. A first fire station was built in 1933. After an expansion of the old fire station in 1963, a new building was inaugurated in 1992. In 1948 the town hall of the municipality of Wüsting was built.

Incorporations

In 1933 there was a first merger with the municipality of Hude (excluding Kirchkimmen), which was dissolved again in 1948. The again independent municipality was initially called Holle, from 1949 Wüsting.

For the territorial reform in Lower Saxony , the previously independent municipality of Wüsting was once again incorporated into the municipality of Hude (Oldenburg) on July 1, 1972.

coat of arms

The design of the former municipal coat of arms of the community Wüsting comes from the Lower Saxony State Archives in Oldenburg. The coat of arms was approved on June 30, 1949 by the Lower Saxony Minister of the Interior . The depicted coat of arms drawing comes from the heraldist Manfred Furchert .

Wüsting coat of arms
Blazon : "In silver over a blue shield base , whichiscrisscrossedwith two silver waves , a red post mill with black wings and golden wind rods."
Justification of the coat of arms: The stylized red post mill symbolizes the scoop mills of that time, which shaped the landscape of the municipality. Dutch settlers set up these distinctive mills and dug drainage ditches around their fields, since in the wet years the inland water of the former Bailiwick of the desert did not flow away. The two silver waves on a blue background are intended to indicate this fact.

Culture and sights

Planet path

In Wüsting is the start (sun) of a planetary educational path that ends in Hude (Pluto). The nature trail is laid out on a scale of 1: 1 billion and is intended to illustrate the proportions of our solar system and make it tangible. The path length is about 6 km.

Natural space

The course of the Bremen-Oldenburg railway line roughly marks the course of the border between the Wesermarsch in the north and the Wildeshauser Geest in the south. Wüsting therefore has a great variety of cultural landscapes . While in the north it is the Marschhufensiedlungen such as Holle and Oberhausen with their grassland areas and moats that shape the landscape, in the south you will find extensive, cultivated moorland areas such as in Tweelbäke or typical Geest settlements such as Hemmelsberg.

Regular events

traffic

Motorway and country roads

The federal highway 28 runs in the south of the former municipality area and can be reached via subordinate roads - especially via the district road 348. To the north there is a traffic connection to Berne and the Wesermarsch via the state road 866 .

railroad

The Wüsting station on the Bremen – Oldenburg railway line was reopened on December 10, 2006 when the timetable changed. Since April 2006, two new platforms, each 210 m long, have been built right next to the level crossing. These platforms offer space for trains with up to seven cars. The platforms are equipped with shelters, a wayfinding system, lighting and information showcases and can be reached barrier-free via ramps.

Up to 44 trains stop in Wüsting every day and offer connections to Oldenburg, Delmenhorst and Bremen without changing trains, and also to Norddeich in the outskirts of the day.
