Hans Theyer

Hans Theyer (born June 11, 1884 in Vienna ; † July 18, 1955 there ) was an Austrian camera pioneer .

Life

He graduated from the arts and crafts school and then studied at the graphic teaching and research institute in Vienna.

From 1905 he made numerous cultural films for the French production company Pathé Frères , including in China , Japan and Korea . Around 1912 and 1913 he was also employed by their Italian branch, Film d'Art Italy . This was followed by a job as a cameraman at the Messter (including Durchs Ziel , 1914) and Sascha-Film in Vienna. From 1915 he worked for the film exposition of the kuk war press quarter , which was engaged in the production of propaganda films under the direction of Sascha Kolowrat-Krakowsky , and thus escaped military service. In 1919 he and his professional colleague Ludwig Schaschek founded the “Association of Operateurs”, which in 1922 merged with other interest groups in the Filmbund . At the Institute for Sound Film Art in Vienna, which was founded in 1933, he worked as a teacher for future cameramen. From 1933 to 1936 the later director Franz Antel was assistant to Hans Theyer in the films of Sascha-Film. He was still active in Vienna until 1939, when Sascha-Film had already been dissolved and re-established as Wien-Film. He spent the following war years in Sweden until 1945 .

Hans Theyer's son Hans Heinz Theyer , born in Vienna in 1910, also became a cameraman.
