Lords of the Seas is an Austrian silent film from 1922 directed by Alexander Korda .

action

The descendant of a Spanish pirate knows, thanks to family traditions, of a treasure that his ancestor is said to have buried on a desert island. Without further ado, the modern pirate hijacks millionaire Thomas Bradley's yacht and takes Robby, his son, as his personal hostage. On the island, the privateer builds his very own pirate's nest with the technical achievements of modern times and a little later also lures Sylla Bradley, the daughter of the yacht owner, here.

Captain Scott, the captain of the hijacked yacht, is on the trail of the villain. He tracks down the modern pirate and saves both Sylla and Robby from his clutches. The Hispanic villain has to realize that he has lost and unceremoniously blows himself up and his hiding place together with his gang. Quite en passant it also emerges that Captain Bradley is the descendant of the very man who once put an end to the Spanish pirate of the past. Bradley and Sylla become a couple and get married.

criticism

In Paimann's film lists you can read: “The subject is not too strong, despite his adventurous accusation that the director made a few leaps and bounds. However, she deserves full praise for the technical side of the picture to which the whole thing is set. The model of a submarine mine station, splendidly successful shipwreck scenes and shelling, both modern vehicles and the old pirate ships in the story, are to be mentioned as generous presentation effects. In terms of performance, the requirements were low, so that no one had the opportunity to do anything special. The photography is characterized by its rare clarity and sharpness. "
