Karen Austin

Karen Austin (born October 24, 1955 in Welch , West Virginia ) is an American actress .

Life

Austin made her debut in the 1974 Canadian television film The Ottawa Valley . She received a Masters degree in literature from Northwestern University . She also received a BA in Theater Arts from Mary Baldwin College , Virginia . After a few guest appearances on television series such as Dallas in 1978, she was seen in a larger role in the film drama Fish Hawk (1979). In the adventure comedy A Totally Crazy Summer (1985) she took on one of the leading roles alongside John Candy .

In the thriller Wilder Sand (1989), Austin and Jennifer Tilly played two women stranded in a provincial town who made friends with the writer Charlie Cox ( Matt Frewer ) and his daughter Joleen ( Drew Barrymore ). In the drama Best Friends for Life (1998) she appeared in a larger role on the side of Gena Rowlands . The comedy Lost in the Pershing Point Hotel (2000), in which she starred alongside John Ritter , won awards at independent film festivals in New York City and Los Angeles . Meanwhile, the actress appears in numerous guest roles in television series such as an episode of the series Desperate Housewives from 2005.

Austin is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and an officer on the Screen Actors Guild . She has a daughter who was born in 1989.
