Andrés Ingólfsson

Andrés Ingólfsson (actually Andrés Sverrir Ingólfsson ; born July 11, 1935 in Iceland ) is an Icelandic musician (alto and tenor saxophone , clarinet and accordion ).

Andrés Ingólfsson was one of the few jazz musicians on the Icelandic scene; he began playing the accordion as a child and played at dance festivals. Then he switched to the clarinet, in the late 1950s to the alto and finally to the tenor saxophone. In 1956 he was a member of the Orion Quartet ; his musical role models were Benny Goodman on the clarinet and Lee Konitz on the saxophone . He performed in Icelandic clubs with the KK Sextet and later the Gudmundar Ingólfsson Trio . In 1959 he received a scholarship from Berklee College of Music in Boston .

Árni Egilsson dedicated his piece "Memory of Andres" to the memory of Andrés Ingólfsson .
