action

Charlie Cox is a divorced writer. He and his underage daughter Joleen live in Los Angeles . Charlie and Joleen go on a trip through the USA, about which the author is supposed to write an article. In Banco, Nevada, they discover that their car is out of gas. As there is no delivery to the local gas station, they cannot buy gasoline and spend the night at the local campsite in the middle of the desert run by Agnes Reed. Joleen discovers the owner's bloodied corpse in the local shop.

Joleen meets Jimmy Reed, the son of Agnes Reed, and finds him attractive. Jimmy and his sister argue with their mother, who has been abandoned by the fathers of both children. Jimmy praises his father's behavior, for which he is slapped. A little later, Agnes Reed is murdered when a person not shown in detail reaches out their hand through the bathroom window and throws an electrical device into the bathtub.

Some local boys find Joleen attractive and advertise her. Joleen is about to fall in love with Jimmy Reed, but he tries to rape her. Pinky Sears saves them. Meanwhile, Charlie meets his neighbors Louise and Amy. They find some gasoline and decide to leave with the women's car. An unknown perpetrator detonates the car, killing Amy.

The serial killer who is active in the village steals Joleen's diary. Jimmy Reed is arrested, but it turns out that it was Pinky Sears and not him who committed the murders. During the showdown, Sears follows Joleen onto a radio tower. There he injures Charlie, who rushes to his daughter's aid, with a knife. A local veteran shoots and injures Sears with a precision rifle. Sears says he's sorry and falls from the tower.

The plot shows " platitudes " and " inconsistencies ". Drew Barrymore would lack " acting sovereignty ".
