Connie Sawyer

Connie Sawyer , actually Rosie Cohen (born November 27, 1912 in Pueblo , Colorado - † January 21, 2018 in Woodland Hills , California ) was an American actress . She was the oldest still active actress in the world until 2014.

Life

Connie Sawyer was the daughter of an immigrant Romanian Orthodox Jewish faith and an American woman. The arranged marriage came about through the mediation of her uncle. She was born in Pueblo, Colorado. At the age of seven, she and her family moved to Oakland , California , where they ran a militaria business.

Since her mother dreamed of being an actress herself, she financed her daughter's singing and dancing lessons. After high school, Sawyer performed briefly in San Francisco before moving to New York City at the age of 19 to be a nightclub singer. This was followed by a career as a stand-up comedian and several appearances on Broadway , including in the play A Hole in the Head , which was later filmed by Frank Sinatra , the German title was one number too big . She herself played the character of Miss Wexler again . With this she started her film career, which includes a total of more than 150 film and television productions, including The Marshal , Harry and Sally and What the Heart Desires , where she played almost exclusively minor supporting roles.

Connie Sawyer was over 100 years old in front of the camera in 2014 and published her autobiography I Never Wanted to Be a Star - and I Wasn't in 2017 . She last lived at the Motion Picture Country House in Woodland Hills, California, where she died in January 2018 at the age of 105. She was married to a film producer for ten years and had two daughters.
