Events

  • February 2nd - The left-wing film production company Prometheus Film is founded in Berlin .
  • May 19 - After demonstrations by the Filmbund , a film quota law came into force in Austria on May 19 to protect the Austrian film industry from cheap imports from abroad, mainly from the United States. From there, Austria reached 1200 feature films in 1925, which was three to four times more than the domestic film requirement of the cinemas. These productions were much cheaper than European productions and thus drove numerous film production companies to bankruptcy.
  • Eight years after the abolition of the monarchy's censorship laws, film censorship will finally be abolished in Austria with effect from May.
