Earle Hyman

Earle Hyman (born October 11, 1926 in Rocky Mount , North Carolina , † November 17, 2017 in Englewood , New Jersey ) was an American actor .

Life

Hyman began his career in 1945 at the age of 18 with a small role in Billy Wilder's The Lost Weekend . Up until the end of 2015 he was involved in around 40 other productions, especially for television.

He gained worldwide fame for his role as the father of Bill Cosby on the Bill Cosby Show . In 1986 he received an Emmy nomination for his performance .

He learned Norwegian early on in his career in order to be able to play original pieces by Henrik Ibsen, who he admired . He had an apartment in Oslo and starred in Norwegian films and sitcoms. In 1990 he brought Ibsen's builder Solness to the stage as an off-Broadway production and also starred alongside Lynn Redgrave himself.

He was a third cousin of the soul singer Phyllis Hyman .
